English Literature since 1800

This class went so fast and I learned so much things through the course materials. I had never read any English literature before, so I was so worried if I make it at first. At the beginning, I struggle little bit but now, I am so glad that I completed all works.
One of the most interesting reading was "Frankenstein" because it was very famous and even I knew it but I completely misunderstood the story. I thought Frankenstein was the monster's name but the monster did not have name. Also, I researched about Mary Shelley who is author of Frankenstein as my web page project, so I learned her background and how the story of Frankenstain was created.
Furthermore, I was interested in poems through the class assignment. I have never tried to understand poems well before and even I have never tried to study poems in English. I felt it would be too difficult to understand for me, but I read classmates's post and learned individuals have different perspective to transfer the poem. So I post my opinion and how I felt about the poem with my confidence.
It was my first online class and I had some anxiety about the class, but I enjoyed it! Also, I really appriciate members of group 4! I think all of us worked very well and comprete our homepage.
Last, I appriciate Dr. Hochenauer's helpness for each of us.

Mrs. Dalloway

In this novel, Woolf used the technique of "stream of consciousness" which creates psychological realism in the story. This technique was very interesting because reader is able to know each characor's thought in his or her mind. Even before the charactor makes his or her action, we already know what made him or her to do it. It shows not only external movement of charactors but also their inner thought, so it makes the story more realistic because we can understand them more.
However, it was hard for me to follow the story and understand well.

Through the class assignment, post of Clarissa, it was very interesting that I realize people likely think "what if" and imagine their different life by making other decision. In the story, Clarissa still thinks about her decision of married with Richerd over Peter about thirty years. I think it is very nomal thing that human being do. Also, people always look bach their decision and think what if they chose the other way even very small things in their daily life.
I believe there is no right choice to make each situation but if the person believe it it right and chose the way to live, I think it is right for him or her and nobody can complain about it!

Gig Challenge!!

Last week, I spent so much time to create my web page. My topic was over Mary Shelley and it was goot to know her background and works more but it was just hard to get all information together. Now, I completed today, so I feel much better but I am not sure I covered everything that I was supporsed to do....

From the 6th week's reading assignment, I really liked the poem, "When You Are Old" by W.B. Yeats. It talks about true love and I really liked first few lines which I could imagine the old lady was looking her diary or picture book to look back her great memory. I thought it was very beautiful.

Goblin Market

This poem made me realized a lot of important things. I thought this story was talkin about people's temptation and death. I interpreted goblin as individuals' deep inside evil voice and forbidden fruit as their lust. If people saw something they want badly in front of them, for example mone, high social status etc, I bet they would hear evil voice from their deep inside of heart like "take it now!" Also, when individuals are fascinated too much by having all their desire in their hand, they would be corroded mentaly and physicaly. Moreover, they keep wanting some more until they die. Therefore, after I read this poem several times, I felt that this story was warning us about against temptation and telling us significance of good relationship between people whom you care about so much. It was beautiful story to see how two sisters love and support each other.
This story was one of my favorite poems which I have read in this class!

I am in Victorian Era in this week!

This week, I really enjoyed reading poems of Victorian period. I liked Elizabeth Browning's poem and Tennyson's " The woman's Cause is Man's" which taled about man and woman's relationship and love. Even these poem was written more than hundred years ago, peple can still share alike feeling and situation. I think it is great and that is the temptness of poetry.
Then, I had trouble with understanding Robert Browning's "My Last Duchess" so I had to read over and over. This story had some ambiguous parts, so I had to think what each word mean and what he was trying to say. It was little hard but it was fun to creat own imagination and think people's thought in this period.
Matthew Arnold's "The Forsaken Merman" gave me negative impact about religion in this period. I felt same thing as Blake's "Garden of Love" too. So I wonder how people had different view as today and in that period.
As going through reading the English literature, I felt I need to learn much more background and history of those period.
I have never studied English literature before, so it is very interesting for me!!

I am ready to read new story of this week but I am not ready for the essay 2 yet....

It's all my first experiences!!

Fall, 2007!!
This semester, I am taking English Literature since 1800 online and it is my first time to study English literature and also it is my first time to take a class online. The third week will be gone and forth week is coming but I am still behind....

Now, I am reading Frankenstein and try to understand the story so hard. I realized that this story sounds very different than what I have hard about Frankenstein. I have not watched any movie or read a book of Frankenstein, so it already get me into the story to know the original story. It's going to be my challenge to finish my reading by today at midnight....
I hope I can make it.
